A Celebration of Life – In Memory of Igor Badamshin
January 29, 2014
It is with a heavy heart that we must let you all know that Igor Badamshin, husband to Nina Gavrylyuk, father to Jenia, friend to all, Elite ski coach at CXC, and past ski coach at GNA, died this past week at the age of 47. He was Russian Nordic Olympian and held many titles in World and Russian National competitions before relocating to the USA in 2003 with his wife and daughter. At that time they took the reigns of the Nordic programs here in Gilford. Igor, being multi-talented and very creative and inventive, was able to assist GNA with many projects. His enthusiasm for cross-country skiing inspired many local youths as he coached them through all levels of training and accompanied them to races across the country. Laughter was his best medicine for almost any occasion even when the joke was on him for some error in his English!
Igor left New Hampshire in 2007 to become part of the CXC program in Wisconsin but the impact he made here will stay forever. His legacy remains here in New Hampshire in the beautiful, warm GNA club house that he helped build, the snow-making system that he relocated to the Nordic trails from another mountain, the night-skiing lights, and the joy that he instilled amongst our community! Lovingly know as “The Waxmeister,” he will be held in our hearts forever for the amazing man that he was.
If you knew Igor, please join us on February 23, 2014 at the GNA Clubhouse for a special celebration in his memory. For more information on this special event, please visit our Events page »
